Haemorrhoids are described as 'Arshas' in Ayurveda Books. This is a life style disorder. Long sitting, having spicy food etc. impairs the digestive power and leads to dialated veins under rectum around anal opening. Ayurveda mentions 6 types of Arsas.

  • Medical (Intake of decoctions laxatives etc.)
  • Kshara sutra (haemorrhoids are tied with medicated thread which makes the piles mass shrink and falls off within few days)
  • Kshara (cauterisation - alkaline medicine which is the combination of herbs are applied to pile mass)
  • Sitz bath (in decoctions)

Fissure

Fissure is described as 'Parikarthika' in Ayurveda.A longitudinal cut at anal canal, usually formed by passing hard stool with strain. It is painful and the patient starts developing fear for passing stool. If chronic, sentinel tag is formed. Usually Patients misunderstands tag as haemorrhoids. Fissure is associated with discharge, bleeding and anal itching.

Fistula

Fistula in anus described as 'Bhagandara' Ayurveda, is an opening between anal canal or rectum and external surface, causing abscesses, which produces yellow pus. Ayurveda mentions 5 types of fistula.
